An industry-first 30W USB power-delivery charging receptacle, at Leviton.
A high power-density in-wall receptacle delivering 30W of USB power, built on a QR flyback topology with an ARM-based USB controller — an industry first for the category.
Delivering meaningful USB-PD power from an in-wall form factor means solving thermal, EMI, and power-sharing problems in a fraction of the volume of a typical charger — with field-grade ESD robustness required from day one.
Designed the full hardware architecture around a QR flyback stage and ARM-based USB controller, engineered specifically for thermal and EMI performance validated through simulation across production variation. Developed a patented logic-control circuit enabling smart power-sharing between multiple USB ports from a single DC-DC stage, cutting EMI, footprint, and cost. Resolved a field ESD failure on the USB ports that had been a recurring issue.
Shipped as an industry-first 30W USB-PD in-wall receptacle, with two patents covering the power delivery architecture and multi-port power-sharing circuit.
